3 MOST IMPORTANT THINGS YOU CAN DO IF DENIED FOR DISABILITY

I do not intend this post to be cute or sarcastic.  Not at all, because it is a serious matter.  I do want it to get your attention and to make a point.

If you apply for Social Security disability and your application is denied, the 3 most important things you can do are:

  1. Appeal.
  2. Appeal
  3. Appeal
There is a strict 60 day deadline to file an appeal.  Filing the appeal is easy.  Preparing for a successful hearing (which comes next) is not easy.  Consider representation.

  1. The term "appeal" sometimes has the wrong connotation, maybe from watching too many lawyer shows on TV. It can be thought of as a type of last ditch, desperate strategy to avoid the inevitable, something which has a very slim chance of success--but something you file because you can't do anything else. In a Social Security disability claim, appeals are routine. Most benefits are won during appeal, seldom at the initial application level. You odds of an award are actually much better at appeal than they are at the initial level. So, for heaven's sake, appeal, appeal, appeal. "Don't delay. Appeal today!"
